FAQ: Mattress Setup

Q1. How do I open, unbox, and set up my new mattress?

The mattress will be vacuum-sealed inside the plastic so you can slide it out easily. Inside the box, you may find a small, plastic safety blade. Slide the blade down through the plastic carefully to open it. The mattress will open once it is outside the plastic. Sit back and watch your mattress expand and take its shape.

Q2. How to keep the mattress from sliding?

You can follow these steps to stop your mattress from sliding:

  • Use a non-slip pad or rubber mat
  • Use Velcro strips
  • Vacuum the underside of your mattress
  • Use carpet tape
  • Use a proper bed frame
Q3. What causes your mattress to slide around?

Your mattress can slide around its foundation for various reasons such as:

  • Lack of friction between the mattress and the bed frame to keep it stable
  • Poor support
  • Old mattress
  • Missing rails due to design of the bed frame
  • A wrong sized frame
  • Two-sided mattress, which is prone to sliding
Q4. How to fix a sagging mattress?

It is difficult to “fix” a sagging mattress. The only true solution is to send it back to the manufacturer for repairs or to fully replace it.

With that stated, there are a few things you may do to reduce mattress sagging affects:

  1. Invest in a mattress topper
  2. Mattress Rotation
  3. Foundation Replacement
  4. Make Use of Additional Pillows
  5. Examine Your Warranty Options.
Q5. Is there an adjustment period for my new mattress?

While the time needed to adjust varies depending on the materials used in the mattress, most of the mattress takes 3-6 weeks to fully embrace and adjust to your body.

Q6. Does compressing the products for shipment cause any damage?

No. A lot of companies around the world compress and vacuum pack their mattress at the time of shipment. This is done very professionally by using costly machines. Thus, it does not damage any fibers of the mattress. If the compressing is done carefully by professionals, there is absolutely no way that this packaging will cause any damage to your mattress.

Q7. How do I take my mattress out of the box?

Follow these steps to unpack your mattress without damaging it:

  • Take your mattress box to the room where you want your mattress to be
  • Open your mattress box
  • Take the mattress out of the box
  • Find the edge of the plastic and unroll the plastic wrap
  • Unroll the mattress, and let it expand
Q8. How long after unboxing can I sleep on the mattress?

Once you unbox a mattress it slowly expands to expand completely. Most companies advise not to use the mattress until 24 hours after you’ve unboxed the bed to ensure the quality of their product is at its fullest potential when you sleep on it for the first time. However, if you relax, jump, or do whatever you want with your bed as soon as you received it will not cause any damage (until you are using it the right way) but will only speed up the expanding process.

This 24-hour recommendation is to ensure customer satisfaction and manufacturer guarantees.

Q9. Can I place the mattress directly on the floor?

Most of the mattresses can be put directly on the floor, as there are several benefits to it. However, you should check the down-side of it as well:

  • The setup of your bed can potentially void your mattress’s warranty.
  • Mold is also a potential issue: particularly in warm or humid environments
  • It restricts airflow around the mattress, which can cause it to feel uncomfortably warm
  • It makes it easier for insects and other pests to make themselves your new bedfellows
  • It can increase the risk of exposure to dust particles and dust mites, particularly if the floor is not cleaned regularly.
  • It may make it more awkward to get in and out of bed.
Q10. What is the Break-In Period?

A break-in period is a period during which certain restrictions or moderation in operating should be followed. All mattresses have a breaking-in period. It’s usually 30 days; but can go up to 90 days.
